Africa and South America Cargo TourT · 6 legs

Tour description

Move freight between Europe, Africa and South America on a six-leg Lufthansa Cargo rotation from Frankfurt. Fly through Dakar and Viracopos to Buenos Aires, then retrace the route home.

Combine the MD-11F Legacy with the Boeing 777F as you handle oceanic planning, heavy payloads and cargo-specific challenges. From medical supplies to live cargo, every sector adds a different operational task to the journey.

Route: EDDF → GOOY → SBKP → SAEZ → SBKP → GOOY → EDDF

Three continents. Six sectors. One cargo mission.

Tour rules

  1. Complete all 6 legs in order under tour code T.
  2. Depart from and arrive at the published airports. Select the correct scheduled flight before starting the flight record.
  3. Aircraft requirement: MD-11F Legacy and Boeing 777F; use the MD-11F on at least two legs and the Boeing 777F for the long-crossing missions identified in the published cargo challenge. Follow the approved flight assignments. Use only an approved assignment available to your pilot rank.
  4. Record each complete flight through Stratos ACARS, from the departure gate or parking position to the arrival gate or parking position.
  5. Fly at normal simulation speed. Slewing, teleporting and skipping parts of a recorded flight are prohibited.
  6. Each leg requires an accepted PIREP. Contact staff if a technical issue affects the report; an unaccepted report does not count toward completion.
  7. Plan each cargo load, fuel uplift and alternate before departure; remain within the aircraft's weight, balance and performance limits. Follow VirtualDLH’s standard operating rules.
  8. Complete all legs within the availability or event dates published for the tour.

Additional tour-specific requirements

  1. Use the scheduled GEC callsign. A historical 'German Cargo' greeting may be added to the flight log on the return to Frankfurt.
  2. Frankfurt–Dakar: target arrival within 10 minutes either side of the SimBrief ETA. Dakar–Viracopos: target 95% of MTOW only when the aircraft's performance and limits permit.
  3. Viracopos–Buenos Aires: keep bank angle at or below 15 degrees and speed at or below 250 knots below 10,000 feet for the live-cargo challenge. Buenos Aires–Viracopos: manage cargo-hold conditions according to the aircraft procedures and divert if a simulated failure makes continuation unsuitable.
  4. Viracopos–Dakar: perform the published maximum-reverse challenge only where permitted by aircraft procedures and operating conditions. Dakar–Frankfurt: finish with a complete cold-and-dark shutdown at the cargo ramp.
  5. For the published MD-11 landing challenge, the intended smooth-landing target is a downward touchdown rate no greater than 150 fpm. A touchdown harder than 400 fpm downward requires a 24-hour simulated inspection before using that aircraft again.
  6. Plan to arrive with no more than 5,000 kg of discretionary extra fuel above required reserves. Keep all required reserves; if a fuel emergency occurs, report it to staff and restart the challenge from the last hub under the published tour rule.
  7. Log 'Good Day, South America!' when crossing the equator and 'Hola Argentina!' on arrival at Buenos Aires. These are simulator traditions.

Completion requirement: All 6 legs completed in sequence with accepted PIREPs, plus any additional tour-specific requirements listed.

North America Holiday TourH · 11 legs

Switch between mainline and regional aircraft as the tour moves through holiday deliveries, family connections and warmer-weather travel. The challenge rewards fleet versatility, careful winter preparation and consistent handling from the first departure to the final shutdown.

Route: KORD → CYYZ → KEWR → CYUL → KIAD → KORD → KDEN → KBZN → KSFO → KLAX → KMCO → TJSJ

Eleven legs. Changing seasons. One North American adventure.

Tour rules

  1. Complete all 11 legs in order under tour code H.
  2. Depart from and arrive at the published airports. Select the correct scheduled flight before starting the flight record.
  3. Aircraft requirement: At least four legs in a 737-700/800/900 or A319/A320/A321, and at least four in a CRJ700, E170 or E175. Choose any authorised tour aircraft for the other three legs; do not use the same subtype for more than two consecutive legs.
  7. Match the aircraft and payload to runway performance and weather. Use a regional aircraft on any tour arrival with less than 6,000 feet of available landing runway. Follow VirtualDLH’s standard operating rules.
  8. Complete all legs within the availability or event dates published for the tour.

Additional tour-specific requirements

  1. Start every flight cold and dark at a gate or parking position. Runway starts are not permitted.
  2. For the winter phase, December 15–March 15, simulate de-icing before taxi when temperature is below 3°C and icing conditions warrant treatment. Plan an alternate and at least 45 minutes of reserve fuel.
  3. On a runway reported contaminated by snow or ice, do not use autoland for this tour; hand-fly from at least the final approach fix when conditions permit a suitable manual approach.
  4. On regional-aircraft legs, disconnect the autopilot no later than 1,000 feet AGL and land manually.
  5. Legs 1–3: target approximately 90% of allowable zero-fuel weight within all aircraft limits. Legs 4–7: use the airline's maximum authorised passenger configuration and aim to keep descent below approximately 1,500 fpm below 10,000 feet when operational conditions permit.
  6. Legs 8–11: aim for touchdown within the first 2,000 feet of usable runway when aircraft performance and conditions permit; go around if the approach is unsuitable.
  7. A landing harder than 450 fpm downward triggers a simulated structural inspection and a 24-hour wait before submitting the next tour leg.
  8. After the final shutdown, the published optional tradition is to set simulator COM2 to 121.500 MHz without transmitting.

Completion requirement: All 11 legs completed in sequence with accepted PIREPs, plus any additional tour-specific requirements listed.

  3. Aircraft requirement: Use the freighter assigned to each leg: Boeing 777F, MD-11F Legacy or approved A330F support aircraft. Select only aircraft available to your pilot rank.
  7. Validate range, payload, fuel and alternates for each sector before dispatch. Request staff-approved changes where a published leg cannot be operated within the assigned aircraft's limits. Follow VirtualDLH’s standard operating rules.
  8. Complete all legs within the availability or event dates published for the tour.

Additional tour-specific requirements

  1. Follow the published virtual logistics cycle: preparation at T−10 to T−7 days, airlift at T−6 to T−3, and destination setup at T−2 to T−0.
  2. Use Frankfurt Cargo City South for the specified night-departure scenario and record the cargo mission in the flight notes.
  3. The simulated unloading order is safety equipment, broadcast systems, team garages, then hospitality units.
  4. Model post-event breakdown and backhaul within the published 24–48-hour logistics phase. A compressed race-weekend planning cycle does not authorise increased simulation speed during an ACARS-recorded flight.

Completion requirement: All 29 legs completed in sequence with accepted PIREPs, plus any additional tour-specific requirements listed.
